Edinburgh Council says it will consider a range of measures to try to drive down motorbike crime in the north of the city.

The move follows our Break the Cycle campaign on Forth News and a hit and run involving a stolen motorbike on Ferry Road last weekend which left a 10-year old boy with several broken bones.

At a full meeting on Thursday, councillors supported a motion put forward by the Lib Dem's Kevin Lang.

A report will be put together into what more can be done including measures such as more education in schools about the dangers of joyriding.

Cllr Kevin Lang told Forth News, "We are all united in taking a stand, and trying to do everything we possibly can to tackle a very serious issue that has been systemic in the communities in north and north west Edinburgh.

"One of the specific things that I am very keen on is that the council looks at experience elsewhere, not just in Scotland but other parts of the UK - even internationally."

Police continue to investigate a hit and run close to Drylaw Police Station which left a young boy badly hurt on Saturday (19th Aug).

The child was struck by a stolen Triumph Daytona 650cc as he crossed a pedestrian crossing on a green man on Ferry Road
