The Head Teacher at the former High School of Ncuti Gatwa says there is a "buzz" around the building this morning.

Yesterday it was revealed Gatwa will take over as the iconic Dr Who.

The 29-year-old will become the 14th Doctor on the popular BBC show, after Whittaker announced last July she will be leaving the role.

Scottish actor Gatwa, who was born in Rwanda, is best known as Eric Effiong in Netflix's Sex Education, about socially awkward high school student Otis (Asa Butterfield) and his sex therapist mother Jean (Gillian Anderson).

Gatwa attended both Boroughmuir High School and Dunfermline High School in Fife after moving to Scotland.

Head Teacher David Dempster told Radio Forth News:

"He did have an incredibly charismatic personality, and a great smile and infectious personality and sense of humour.

"Which simply allowed us all to understand that Ncuti was somebody who had a great future ahead of them, whether it was an acting or science or whatever.

"We really can't wait to see Ncuti back at a time that suits him. And being a time lord of course, that could be the present, the past or the future."

Dempster originally taught Gatwa science, he told us:

"I'm really pleased to say that, in my time, as a science teacher, I taught Ncuti Gatwa science and I'm really pleased to think that maybe that contributed in some way to Ncuti's journey to becoming a time lord, I'm not sure if it did, but I'd like to think it was."
