Blaze Destroys Workshop In West Calder

Published 6th Aug 2015

Fire investigators are trying to work out what started a ferocious blaze in a large workshop in West Calder late last night.

A total of six fire appliances were sent to the scene, and a command support unit was required, on the town's Young Street at around 11:55pm.

No-one was injured but the situation was complicated by volatile materials, methanol and biodiesel, which were inside the building.

Drains around the property were blocked in case any hazardous liquids had leaked from their containers

Firefighters managed to stop the flames spreading to neighbouring buildings and scene was made safe by around 2am.
