Aunt of Brad Williamson fears motorbike crime "will only escalate"
The Aunt of 14-year-old Brad Williamson, who died while joyriding a motorbike through north Edinburgh last summer, has called on motorcycle criminals to hand themselves in.
It comes as Police Scotland continues to search for the driver of a stolen motorbike which struck a 10-year-old child on Ferry Road on Saturday night - leaving him seriously injured.
The driver, who was riding a white Triump Daytona 650cc, sped off from the scene after.
Officers are now reviewing CCTV footage in order to identify the individual.
But now Louise Lothian has spoken out, calling on the driver hand themselves in to Police. She has campaigned for an end to ongoing motorbike crime, following the death of her 14-year-old nephew last June.
"I knew an innocent wee kid was going to get hurt. My heart sank when I heard the news on Saturday night. My partner was on the bus and sent me a picture and I thought oh my god. I knew this was going to happen, I knew it.
"They can't live knowing they've done that for the rest of their lives. It's just a kid they've hit. They're running amok and they know they are getting away with it, so nothing is going to change. It's only going to escalate.
"There's things that we could do as a wider community to help them. These laddies have nothing, that's the only thing in life they have. They don't have anything else.
"I don't know what the answer is but there must be something we can do to deter them, because this problem is only going to become greater than it already is, and it's already massive. I know that first-hand."
