Bosses at Edinburgh Airport say a back-up power system didn't kick in yesterday due a 'catastrophic failure' with a transformer.

The outage hit the terminal shortly before 9am on Wednesday, leading to long queues at check-in desks and extensive delays to flights.

Management also insist their systems remain robust as the busy summer holiday season gets underway and Edinburgh's festival season approaches
