Don't attend A&E unless it's a 'critical emergency' says NHS Lothian
NHS Lothian say their accident and emergency department is under 'extreme pressure'
NHS Lothian is urging the public not to attend it's accident and emergency departments unless there is a 'critical emergency'.
The health board says it's A&E's are under 'extreme pressure'.
A press release says:
"We urge the public, if they think they need to visit A&E, but it’s not a critical emergency, to call NHS 24 on 111 first, day or night.
"NHS 24 will direct you to the right care in the right place. Self-care information can be found on NHS Inform. Local pharmacies, GPs, dental practices or opticians might also be the most appropriate and more timely route to treatment and care."
Gillian MacAuley, Nurse Director - Acute Services for NHS Lothian said:
"Our emergency departments are under serious pressure today.
"There are extremely long waits of several hours to be seen.
"If you think you need to be seen but your situation is not life threatening please do not just turn up."
