Two men are being reported to prosecutors after the lorries they were driving overturned on the A1 while the road was closed to high-sided vehicles during high winds.

One HGV ended up on its side at the Belhaven junction on the A1 near Dunbar, East Lothian, shortly after noon on Tuesday.

The second overturned 20 minutes later at the Thorntonloch Beach junction on the same road.

Police have reported a 47-year old man to the procurator fiscal over the first incident and a 36-year-old man in connection with the second.

The A1 was closed to high-sided vehicles from 5am on Tuesday between Edinburgh and the English border, and shut to all traffic between Haddington and Thistly Cross.

Traffic Scotland said on Tuesday that gusts of up to 68mph had been recorded on the route.
