87 year old who died in Peebles road smash named

A pensioner who died in a serious road accident in Peebles over the weekend has been named by police as Robert Fleming Kerr from Glasgow.

The 87-year-old was a passenger within a Vauxhall Meriva that was travelling east along the A72 on Saturday 4th June, when it was involved in a collision with a Honda CRV near the junction of Horsburgh Road.

Mr Kerr was conveyed to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Glasgow where he later passed away due to the injuries he sustained.

The 71-year-old male driver of the Meriva was taken to the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh where he continues to be treated for neck and back injuries, while the 42-year-old male driver of the Honda was taken to Borders General Hospital before later being released.

Inquiries to establish the full circumstances surrounding this incident are ongoing and anyone with information that can assist Road Policing Officers with their investigation is being asked to come forward.

Sergeant Neil Inglis said: “We are still working to establish what happened to result in this collision and I would ask anyone who was on the A72 near Peebles at around 11.10 a.m. on Saturday morning to come forward if they remember seeing anything that can assist with our investigation.

“In addition, anyone with any further information relevant to this collision should also contact police immediately.”
