400,000 fireworks to bring Edinburgh's festival season to an end
A huge fireworks display will bring Edinburgh's festival season to a close tonight.
The Virgin Money Fireworks Display will take place at the Ross Bandstand in Princes Street Gardens from 9pm.
The display will be set to music from Gustav Holst’s visionary The Planets.
Over 400,000 fireworks will also be let off as part of the show, choreographed by international fireworks artists Pyrovision.
Keith Webb is the Design Director. He says: "We've taken elements of saturn rings, and we're going to try and recreate saturn rings in the sky. We've looked at the images of certain planets, like Mars, so the castle is going to go red and very fiery and destructive.
"We do a lot of research, which a lot of people probably don't think we do, in to finding out more about why the music was written, what it was written for, the time it was written in, and we use that to get inspiration for the show.
Around a quarter of a million people are expected to gather across the city to watch the finale of the Edinburgh International Festival.
