The second phase of Edinburgh's 20mph limit is now in force.

The new zone came into force at midnight and includes residential and shopping streets stretching from Morningside to Leith.

The first phase was introduced back in July 2016 and covered the city centre and western outskirts of the Capital.

Edinburgh Council says the changes will make the streets safer and that a pilot scheme, carried out in 2012, encouraged more people to get out on their bikes or public transport.

Drivers caught speeding will face a fine of £100 and three penalty points.

Despite the sweeping changes, some arterial roads will keep their 30 or 40mph limits in place.
