A major investigation's been launched after a 16 year old girl was raped at a playpark in the north of Edinburgh.

The horrific attack happened last night (Tue 10th May) at the city's West Pilton Park and the area has been cordoned off to allow for forensic investigations.

Police say they're following a positive line of inquiry, but are urging anyone who was in the area between 11pm and midnight to get in touch.

A Police Scotland spokeswoman said: "Police in Edinburgh are currently investigating the serious sexual assault of a 16-year-old female, which took place at a playpark in the West Pilton Park area on Tuesday.

"Officers are currently following a positive line of enquiry in relation to this, but would appeal for anyone with information to come forward.

"Anyone who may have been in the area between 11pm and midnight is urged to contact Police Scotland on 101 or contact Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111."
