Fans divided as bosses discuss The Office US reboot
The 'World's Best Boss' could be back behind his desk
It was May 2013 when we said our final goodbyes to the Dunder Mifflin Paper Company employees.
The mockumentary-style show was based on Ricky Gervais' hit BBC series of the same name, which aired in the UK from 2001 to 2003 and won a Golden Globe award in its final year.
Now, NBC bosses have hinted that a reboot of The Office, which first premiered in 2005, could be in the works.
Many fans believe the popular show met a fitting end with the final episode in 2013, where we saw characters like boss Michael Scott (Steve Carell), receptionist Pam Beesly (Jenna Fischer), assistant to the regional manager Dwight Schrute (Rainn Wilson) and salesman Jim Halpert (John Krasinski) move on to pastures new.
Susan Rovner, content chief at NBC Universal, discussed the future of the Scranton-based show whilst attending the Edinburgh International TV Festival.
Despite previously declining to comment, she told Deadline: "Whenever Greg Daniels wants to do one, we're standing by."
So, as soon as producer Greg Daniels gives a green light to a reboot, we could be seeing 'World's Best Boss' Michael Scott back behind his desk!
However, many of The Office's dedicated legion of fans are sceptical. One fan wrote on Twitter: ‘@nbc regarding a @theofficetv reboot- no Michael Scott, no go. Period. This is not debatable. #TheOfficeUS'.
Another added: ‘If I see one more story on the socials about how NBC is wanting to reboot the office, I’ll quietly be annoyed at my desk, but like really annoyed, in a big way.’
Someone else commented: ‘The Office does not need a reboot hell no'.
Despite some negative online reactions, other fans have shown support for a reboot.
One Twitter used said: 'Anyone else excited for the New Reboot of “The Office” Call me handI honestly can’t wait to see what they have for us'.
Another wrote: 'It’s time for a dunder mifflin reunion. you know what to do. You need Michael Scott and why not throw David Brent into the mix and have it be a reboot for both the UK and US'.
