It's been nearly two weeks since that nail-biting Line of Duty finale which finally saw viewers establish the identify of H, but so far, we've heard absolutely NOTHING about a seventh series.

Despite both the BBC and Jed Mercurio keeping silent about plans of another series of the hit crime drama, star of the show Martin Compston (DS Steve Arnott) has now spoken, admitting he would be seriously 'heartbroken' if that was the end.

Speaking during a recent chat with ES Magazine, the Scottish actor revealed the cast have zero idea if there's going to be a seventh series, saying: "Jed always takes time away from it. I think what I would say, the two things I would say, is that the idea that I would never work with all the guys again together would be heartbreaking.

"But also with everything that's just gone on this week, I think everybody, including the audience, needs a bit of time away from it. So we'll see."

Check out Ted Hastings' best lines from Line of Duty:

“There’s only one thing I’m interested in and that is catching bent coppers”

"Jesus, Mary and Joseph and the wee donkey"

“Frankly son, right now, I couldn’t give a s---”

“You’ve got a bloody nerve”

“Now we’re sucking diesel”

“For years, the security in this department has been watertight… then you come along, suddenly we’re leaking like a colander”

“She’ll be laughing on the other side of her face when I’m finished with her”

“Now we’re cooking with gas!”

“She’s cooked her goose now”

“Houl yer whisht”

“Mother of God”

“I didn’t float up the Lagan in a bubble”

“None of my people would plant evidence. They know I would throw the book at them – followed by the bookshelf”

“No more beating around the bush, we raid Operation Lighthouse”

“We've been round the houses Steve. Round the houses and down the bloody drains"

“Gotcha a big pint of that cats’ p--- that you young fellas seem to like so much”

“Go back to the coal face, the pair of you, unless you’ve got more egg-sucking tips for your Granny”

“Don't talk to me about victimisation, nobody's blacker than me, son"

“You were going like the clappers”

“God give me strength”

“That’s us now”

“I think you should sit down, fella. Or I’ll handcuff you to that desk”

“You look like a couple of kids who’ve been caught robbing an orchard”

The final episode of series six, which aired on Sunday 2nd May, finally revealed incompetent copper Ian Buckles as the 'fourth man', with many fans left a little underwhelmed at the ending.

Speaking previously about the prospect of a seventh series, Jed, who is also responsive for shows like Bodyguard, Bloodlands and upcoming series Vigil, told the Radio Times: "We’re in a situation where it’s not entirely clear that there will be a seventh series. We would hope there could be. But we’re having to do our planning coming out of COVID, and a whole bunch of other things around the idea that these things aren’t guaranteed at all now.

"Since probably season four, we’ve been talking to the BBC about the realistic longevity of the series. I’ve experienced broadcasters pulling the plug while we were still developing a storyline –Bodies and Cardiac Arrest both ended prematurely on the BBC. So it’s an ongoing discussion, is all I can say. A lot of it depends on the key creatives – me and the main actors – finding new stories to tell within that universe."

One thing is for sure, if there is an announcement of a new series, we will be the first to inform you!
