Now that December has hit the nation are really getting into the festive spirit! As well as Elf on the Shelf making an appearance, Netflix have unveiled some amazing Christmas movies to get us in the mood, and now the BBC have released this year's Christmas TV schedule.

Amongst things like The Queen's Speech, Strictly Come Dancing and of course, EastEnders, eagle-eyed fans were quick to notice a Gavin & Stacey Christmas Special is listed for Christmas Eve.

The listings state the show will air at 8.40pm on Thursday 24th December, leaving fans of James Corden and Ruth Jones' sitcom very confused.

One Twitter user wrote, 'OMG is that a new #GavinandStacey Xmas special', with another adding , 'New Gavin & Stacey?!?!'

Another added, 'I thought there wasn't going to be any new episodes of Gavin & Stacey?!' (sic)

Of course, unfortunately for fans, the episode of Gavin & Stacey listed for Christmas Eve is in fact the 2019 Christmas special, which ended on THAT massive cliffhanger as Nessa popped the question to Smithy.

Check out all of the TV shows we can't wait for the return of in the coming months:

The news comes just days after Ruth Jones appeared on This Morning to shut down claims new episodes would be arriving in the near future.

Speaking to hosts Ruth Langsford and Eamonn Holmes, Ruth said, "There aren't any plans to write anything, obviously James is in America, I'm in Wales. I'm sorry not to be able to give you any good news."

As if that wasn't bad enough, Ruth then added, "I do think that the Christmas special ended in such a way that if we never go back to Barry, we will always wonder what happened. There's something quite juicy about that, that we will always wonder 'Did Smithy say yes?, Did they get married?'"

So, it looks like we will just have to enjoy the repeats!
