Eurovision fever is hotting up in the UK with the hosts and performers now announced for big day in May. Now, EastEnders have announced a special guest appearance from a Eurovision legend for their Eurovision episode.

Cheryl Baker, who won Eurovision back in 1981 as part of Bucks Fizz with their hit 'Making Your Mind Up', will appear in the special episode, where the residents of Walford will celebrate the event, taking place in Liverpool this year.

Announcing the exciting news on social media, the official EastEnders account posted a photo of Cheryl saying: '@thecherylbaker is set to appear in #EastEnders as the residents of Walford celebrate the Eurovision Song Contest 2023! 🍾

'Cheryl and her fellow members of The Fizz (formerly known as Bucks Fizz) were crowned winners of the Eurovision Song Contest back in 1981. As the residents of Albert Square celebrate the highly anticipated arrival of the contest in the UK, how does the one and only Cheryl Baker end up celebrating with them in Walford?'.

The caption continued: 'Speaking on her guest appearance, Cheryl said: “I was so thrilled to be asked to take part in an episode of EastEnders. It’s a British institution, for goodness sake! As a real-life ‘Eastender’, I have loved the show since day one and I literally can’t wipe the smile from my face.”'.

Since the news was announced fans of the show have been leaving excited messages, with one writing: 'Omg that’s amazing news, taken me back down memory lane, being a kid of the 80s, absolutely loved Bucks Fizz, Cheryl being my fave out of the girls ❤️ can’t wait to see you on screen ❤️' (sic), and another wrote: 'Love Cheryl baker wish she was a regular ❤️'.

Cheryl has also been taking to her Instagram Stories to share her fans' excitement at the news, writing: 'I was SO thrilled to be asked to take part in an episode of @bbceastenders and had so much fun'.

This year the Eurovision Song Contest will be held in Liverpool, as the winners Ukraine were unable to host the event in their country, due to the war. This year's hosts include Ukrainian singer Julia Sanina, alongside Hannah Waddingham, Alesha Dixon and Graham Norton, who will commentate with Bake Off's Mel Giedoryc.
