If you cast you minds back to the 2022 series of Britain's Got Talent, you'll no doubt remember the simply horrifying act The Witch, which left judges Simon Cowell, Amanda Holden, Alesha Dixon and David Walliams trembling with fear.

After the scary but fantastic performance, which saw the act get through to the semi-finals stage, viewers were keen to discover who was behind the mask.... But until now their identity has been kept a secret!

Who was The Witch on Britain's Got Talent?

So, it turns out there were actually two witches - one for the audition and one for the semi-final.

Although the first performer who did the audition stage of the show with the apple trick wishes to remain anonymous, former BGT finalist Marc Spellman has now revealed the identity of the second witch.

Speaking on his YouTube page, magician Marc said: "It is an incredible actor called Martin Portlock. He was sworn to secrecy too, he couldn't tell anybody that he was the witch."

Martin also revealed the news about The Witch's identity on Instagram, he said: 'Feel free to share. It's no longer a secret. So… one year ago today I performed on stage for television. Although it's been a bit of a secret for the past year, my identity as 'The Witch' was unknown!

'I can now confirm that The Witch on Britain's Got Talent 2022 WAS ME! I am an actor here in the U.K.

'I performed in front of 4000 people at the London, Hammersmith Apollo Theatre, live on national television for ITV in the semi-finals and again in Manchester as the finale for the Christmas special 'The Ultimate Magician'. I hope you all liked the performances.'

Martin later shared another video to Instagram page, clearing up the confusion about the two different witches, revealing he only did the semi-final performance, and the special magic edition of the show later in the year.

In the comments, Martin said: 'What a wonderful experience It was to perform for everyone on Britain’s got talent. It’s never a one-man act. There was a prosthetic team that developed the look of the character. There was a magic consultant that helped this little Actor with some of the magical elements of the act. There was the Props department that really created an amazing atmosphere with their technical props. The stage crew. The producers. And also the amazing judges.

'All I can divulge about the first witch is that the actor wishes to remain anonymous. people generally assume that we were celebrities, although the fact of the matter is that we are just actors working in the industry. Even if people found out the name they would still have no clue as to who we are'. (sic)
