Idris Elba has confirmed that production on the upcoming Luther film has officially begun, taking to his social media channels to share some snaps from behind the scenes. From the sneak peek he shared, we can see that filming began back in October!

The actor shared two pictures, showing us the Luther filming clipboard, as well as himself in Luther’s iconic coat. Captioning the photos, Idris simply wrote: 'Oi......I’m back!'

Overjoyed fans couldn't help but express their excitement, with one replying: 'Get in! I can't wait for this!' and another writing: 'Here's the news we needed 🙌'.

This isn't the first time that Idris has teased the Luther film, with the actor teasing back in July 2020: "It is happening", adding: "I've maintained that I'd like to see it come to a film. That's what I think we're headed towards, a film. I'm looking forward to making that happen."

While fans are keen to see the return of DCI John Luther's trusted companion Alice Morgan (Ruth Wilson), it has been reported that Cynthia Erivo and Andy Serkis were recently added to the film's cast.

The film is being made by Netflix in association with the BBC, where the show initially aired back in 2010.

Idris previously teased that "the sky is the limit" when it comes to the Luther film, with the Hollywood Reporter revealing that it will see Luther take on two villains. We can't wait to see what they have in store for us!
