Daredevil actor Tom Cruise risked his own life in a truly astonishing stunt for his new movie Mission Impossible: Rogue Nation.

A newly unveiled behind-the-scenes clip sees 53-year-old Tom fearlessly grip onto the A400m military aircraft as it takes off at 160mph.

"You can't hang a multimillion dollar star on the outside of an aeroplane and fly around in the normal world," stunt coordinator Wade Eastwood commented. “But Tom wanted to be on the outside of that plane."

“There's no little crash and a splash; you're dead,” he ominously adds.

Tom, who plays Ethan Hunt in the action movie series, said: “I couldn't sleep the night before. And then came the day. I was like ‘OK, this is really going to happen’.”

Wearing a suit and special contact lenses to protect his eyes, the terrifying footage sees Tom get propelled horizontally by the sheer velocity of the plane.

Narrating the clip, Tom comments: "I’m feeling the force of the wind hit me. I'm actually scared s**tless!!”

We don’t blame you Tom!

The fifth instalment of the series, Mission Impossible: Rogue Nation hits UK cinemas on Friday 30th July.
