Tom Holland announced as the new Spider-Man!
He'll take over from Andrew Garfield
British actor Tom Holland has been unveiled as the new Spider-Man!
The 19-year-old star of Billy Elliot The Musical, The Impossible and Wolf Hall will replace fellow Brit Andrew Garfield in the Marvel Cinematic Universe franchise.
The as-yet-untitled Spider-Man movie will be directed by Jon Watts and produced by Kevin Feige and Amy Pascal.
Marvel said a statement: "The studios and producers were impressed by Holland's performances in The Impossible, Wolf Hall, and the upcoming In the Heart of the Sea, and by a series of complex screen tests.
"For Spidey himself, we saw many terrific young actors, but Tom's screen tests were special."
Former Happy Days actor turned acclaimed director Ron Howard, who directed Tom in In The Heart Of The Sea, believes he’s perfect for the role.
"Tom's young, incredibly agile and fit. He's also very accessible and very relatable,” Ron told the BBC.
"He's one of us and has tremendous skills as an actor. His years as Billy Elliot have served him well.
"He does his own stunts, some really challenging ones. He's very down to earth, very hard working and has great sense of fun."
Before the lead role in the 2017 Spider-Man movie, Tom’s incarnation of the character will get its debut in next year’s Captain America: Civil War.
Tom’s Spidey predecessor starred in 2012’s The Amazing Spider-Man and the 2014 follow-up.
