Richard O’Brien will be involved in The Crystal Maze reboot
He will be welcoming guests, producers confirm
Richard O’Brien will be involved in the revived version of The Crystal Maze when it returns as a live immersive experience in London.
Last week it was announced that the immensely popular ‘90s TV show will be making a comeback of sorts later this year via a series of cryptic messages.
Now, on the project’s IndieGoGo fundraising page, producers at Little Lion Entertainment have finally given fans more detailed information about the revamp.
They wrote: “You'll get to play the maze just as contestants did on the original show - placing you at the centre of the action. What we really want, is for people to live the magic of the hit television programme for themselves.
“We will be lovingly recreating the famous set just as it was on the original show. All four famous zones will be present; Aztec, Medieval, Industrial and Futuristic, not forgetting of course, The Crystal Dome!”
Confirming Richard O’Brien’s participation, the producers teased: “We are delighted to be announcing the return of none other than the legendary Maze Master himself, Richard O'Brien!
Elsewhere, they confirmed that participants will compete in teams of eight and each contestant will “intelligence, skill, physical ability and mystery” games before the grand finale inside the Crystal Dome.
To fund the project, Little Lion Entertainment are calling on fans of the show to make pledges in return for things like early bird tickets, tickets and bomber jackets, red carpet and hire of the entire maze for a day.
From 2,036 pledges at the time of writing, they’ve made £191,000 of their £500,000 target.
Screened on Channel 4 from 1990 to 1995, at its peak The Crystal Maze was one of the most popular shows on Channel 4 regularly attracting between 4 and 6 million viewers.
Richard O’Brien helmed the first four series before Ed Tudor-Pole took over the reins for the final two.
