Now, the latest guest to join Fleur East on The Reality of Reality TV is another I'm a Celebrity winner, and former Geordie Shore star, Vicky Pattison. Vicky joined Geordie Shore back in 2011, just as Reality TV was beginning to take off, and admitted to Fleur that she didn't really know what she was getting herself into.
The self-confessed Reality TV addict, who has appeared on Ex on the Beach, Celebrity Dinner Date, I'm a Celebrity: Extra Camp, Celebrity Masterchef, Celebrity Coach Trip and many more, told how when it came to preparing for the shows, I'm a Celebrity and Geordie Shore were VERY different.
"I personally believe that Geordie Shore worked best when we were vulnerable," Vicky admitted, continuing, "The nature of the show worked best when the young people on it were vulnerable.
"It's an awful thing to say, so I don't feel like sometimes everyone got the support they probably needed, that is my personal opinion, but I think that stems true for a lot of reality TV shows, if you look at what the desired outcome is."
Vicky went on to reveal that when she had some interviews for the Jungle it was the "polar opposite," explaining, "It doesn't thrive on disfunction, it thrives on unity, on people coming together, a sense of camaraderie, supporting each other, solidarity..."
The Reality TV star recounted the time she sat down with the show's psychologist explaining how she was only going to tell the bare minimum, because she was distrustful of therapists, but after refusing to answer some of the questions, Vicky was told, "Once you lie to me about anything, you are then a liar and I have to discount everything you say, because you can't be truthful to me, so I can't give you an accurate assessment."
After hearing this, Vicky crumbled and started to tell her everything!
Due to the Coronavirus Pandemic, this year's I'm a Celebrity will take place in a ruined castle somewhere in the UK countryside, speaking about this year's show, Richard Cowles, Director of Entertainment at ITV Studios said, "While it will certainly be different producing the show from the UK, the same tone and feel will remain. Our celebrities will probably have to swap shorts for thermals but they can still look forward to a basic diet of rice and beans and plenty of thrills and surprises along the way."
The Reality of Reality TV is available every Tuesday through Apple podcasts, Spotify, the Forth 1 website and all mainstream podcast providers.
