LISTEN: Call from President Vladimir Putin to Sir Elton John revealed as fake
The prank call discussing gay rights was aired on Russian TV
A phone call made to Sir Elton John from Russian President Vladimir Putin and his translator has been revealed as fake after it aired on Russian TV.
The singer had taken to Instagram to celebrate the fact he had been contacted by the President, but the Kremlin denied the call had taken place.
The call was in fact made by Russian pranksters Vladimir Krasnov and Alexei Stolyarov, known as Vovan and Lexus. Speaking to a Russian publication they have said that they simply gave Elton "what he wanted."
Russia has been under fire for its stance on homosexuality so many will be disappointed to hear, that what seemed like a positive step for the LGBT community, was actually a cruel prank.
The full interview can be heard below, but the singer can still hope that, as it was aired on Russian TV, his words about supporting the LGBT community will still reach an audience.
