Home and Away star Johnny Ruffo gives fans an update 10 months after he had a brain cancer operation
He had an operation in August 2017
Johnny Ruffo was known for playing Chris Harrington in the popular TV soap Home and Away as well as appearing on The X Factor Australia, however last year he shocked fans by revealing he had been diagnosed with brain cancer and had to have a cancerous tumour removed from his brain.
Now, 10 months later, the actor has appeared on an Australian radio show to give his fans an update on his wellbeing. Speaking to the show's hosts, Johnny said that because his family weren't there at the time, his long-term girlfriend Tahnee Sims had given the doctors permission to do the operation.
"She had to sign the forms," Johnny explained, "There was a one in 20 chance that I wouldn't survive it. I almost didn't have time to react to it, because I went in and then I fell into a coma and I woke up two or three days later and they said, 'We operated and you had a tumour'."
Johnny then went on to explain what happened when he woke up, "I had woken up and sort of had to learn to do most things again, like walking was a bit of a struggle. I couldn't walk in a straight line."
"I'm feeling good. In between chemo cycles, you feel better than what you do during the chemo itself.
"I'm on the up and up now, I've only got a couple months (of treatments) left."
On the 10th August 2017 Johnny had a tumour removed from his skull when an abnormality was noticed, after visiting the doctor's with a migraine. After his operation, Johnny posted a disturbing close-up of the staples in his head, along with a photo of himself smiling in a hospital bed, his head bandaged up and his left thumb up.
On Mother's Day the actor took to Instagram to post a photo of him in wheelchair being pushed by his mum saying, 'thanks for being there for me when i needed you š happy mothers day to my mum, haha excuse the socks'. sic
Last month he also took to social media to post a cute photo of himself with his long-term girlfriend Tahnee saying, 'Saturday night with my one true love, and @tahneesims decided to join us šš #pizza #homemade'.
Johnny has now revealed that in addition to recovering well he is back in the recording studio.
Johnny rose to fame when he took part in The X Factor Australia in 2011, after releasing a few songs he then joined the cast of Home and Away in 2013.
