Jenna Coleman confirms she has left Doctor Who
Series nine is her last appearance as Clara Oswald
Actress Jenna Coleman has confirmed that she is exiting Doctor Who after three years.
Jenna, 29, who has played the Doctor’s companion Clara Oswald alongside Matt Smith and Peter Capaldi since 2012 revealed today she has already filmed her final scenes.
Explaining to the BBC that her departure “has been in the works for a long time”, Jenna said: “I have left the Tardis, it’s happened already, I’ve filmed my last scenes.
“Stephen (Moffat) and I sat down a year ago and tried to work out the best place to do it and the best place to tell a really good story so hopefully that’s what we’ve done.”
She added: “I really don’t feel like I’ve left because I see Peter (Capaldi) and Matt (Smith) all the time I still believe I have a key to the Tardis.
“It’s been so much fun, I loved it, it’s been really special.”
Paying tribute to Jenna, the official Doctor Who Twitter account posted a pic of Clara and the 12th Doctor along with the caption “I’ve loved working with Peter Capaldi.”
Jenna has already been cast as a young Queen Victoria in a new eight-part ITV drama series about the monarch’s early life.
She said in a statement: “I am delighted to be cast as Queen Victoria in this ambitious drama of her life. She is a vivid, strong, inspirational and utterly fascinating woman in British history and I can’t wait to tell her story.”
The ninth series of Doctor Who starts with an episode called The Magician’s Apprentice at 7.40pm on BBC One on Saturday night.
