Gary Lineker and wife Danielle having 'quickie' divorce after six years of marriage
Allegedly because he doesn’t want any more children
Football icon Gary Lineker and his model wife Danielle have announced they’re divorcing after six years of marriage.
The former England captain and Match of the Day presenter, 55, and 36-year-old Danielle will have a Decree Nisi issued today to formally end their nuptials.
Rather than going through lengthy court proceedings and hiring solicitors, Gary and Danielle’s ‘quickie divorce’ involved using a government website at a cost of £400.
A spokesperson for the couple confirmed the split, saying: “Gary and Danielle have decided to end their marriage and their divorce was confirmed today with the judge granting a Decree Nisi. They remain the greatest of friends and wish each other every happiness.”
As news of the split emerged this morning, both Gary and Danielle have taken to Twitter to pay homage to each other. Read what they said here:
Gary and Danielle haven’t officially revealed the reason behind the split, however heat is reporting that Danielle wants to start a family but ‘the football pundit feels too old to have any more children.’
The couple married in Ravello, Italy in September 2009, three years after Gary split from his first wife Michelle Cockayne.
In an episode of TV show Mr & Mrs in 2010, where couples have their knowledge tested about each other, they won £30,000 for charity.
Gary has four children from his first marriage - George, Harry, Tobias and Angus – while Danielle has a 13-year-old daughter called Ella.
