Emmerdale viewers unhappy with poor taste Cerebal Palsy comment
Viewers were not happy with the scene
Viewers of popular ITV soap Emmerdale have been left unhappy after the show referred to Cerebral Palsy during a scene in a recent show.
The scene involved characters Dan Spencer and Nicola King enjoying a bottle of wine together before Nicola, who is played by actress Nicola Wheeler, said "You can't go around like that, all cocked. You look like you've got that, what is it? Himi, Hemi, Hemiplegia."
The comments left fans of the show outraged as Hemiplegia in infants and children is a type of Cerebral Palsy, leaving them with paralysis on one side of the body.
Upon feeling that Emmerdale were comparing Hemiplegia to being drunk, angry and disappointed fans took to Twitter to slam the show, with some even threatening to 'boycot' it.
One user wrote 'You've lost a lot of viewers over your Hemiplegia comments' with another adding 'Disgusted and shocked, you've lost a fan here'.
Emmerdale bosses are yet to comment.
Elsewhere on ITV, some Coronation Street viewers accused the soap of being 'racist' after a scene which aired earlier in the week.
The episode in question involved characters Eva Price and Audrey Roberts discussing hair in the salon. Then Eva, who is played by actress Catherine Tyldesley said “I have more roots than Kunta Kinte."
Viewers of the show were left shocked at the comment with many complaining to the soap via their social media channels.
A spokesperson for ITV has now apologised for the scene. She said “We apologise if this dialogue has caused offence.”
