Cheryl has opened up about why she decided to take a year out from the spotlight. Cheryl, who gave birth to her first child Bear in March 2017, has kept a low profile since falling pregnant in 2016, and has recently returned to the public eye after over a year off.

The former Girls Aloud star has now opened up about stepping away from the music world, speaking to Jessie Ware on her podcast Table Manners about what has made her leave music behind until now as she prepares to release her first single in four years.

She admitted, "I needed it for my sanity. I honestly didn’t know how much I needed it until I did it. I’d just had enough. I wasn’t inspired, I was jaded.

"It felt like a negative space I was living in and then you get to the point where it’s like, 'What is the point?' I could be doing something I hate doing and feel the same way, so why am I like putting myself through this?' I like a balance. I like peace and harmony in my life."
