Camila Cabello opens up about extreme nerves ahead of first date with Shawn Mendes
She had a pretty nifty trick to calm herself down...
Camila Cabello has opened up about her first date with her now-boyfriend Shawn Mendes. Appearing alongside her Cinderella co-stars Idina Menzel and Billy Porter in James Corden's Carpool Karaoke, she revealed a unique way she calmed her nerves.
Wearing a stunning princess dress as she sat in the back of James' famous Range Rover, Camila admitted: "Before Shawn and I's first date, I was so nervous I took two tequila shots and sang defying gravity in the shower over and over!"
Idina Menzel, who first sang the song which features in the hit musical Wicked, laughed alongside Camila before the singer elaborated on the events of that evening.
After James said: "Set the scene for this...", the 24-year-old continued: "So Shawn and I have been talking for a couple weeks now, like, 'oh my god I'm so excited to see you' like 'I can't wait to kiss you', like all that stuff.
"So obviously, there's just a lot of steaks!" James then added: "The steaks are high!"
The singer then revealed that although the pair had already released their duet together, 'I Know What You Did Last Summer', they were not officially together yet.
She then said: "So, he's about to come over and I'm like so nervous I just like can't take it. My dad is there, I'm like pour me two tequila shots," before adding: "And I just sang Defying Gravity!"
The gang then, of course, broke out into song, belting the musical classic at the top of their lungs.
Camila and Shawn were first linked back in November 2015, after they released their first track together - 'I Know What You Did Last Summer'. Their romance later took off in 2019, following the release of their next track 'Señorita'.

The pair were booked for a lot of the same shows and were often playing after each other on the running order. The pair then bumped into each other at a Taylor Swift concert, Camila went in to say hi to Shawn and they ended up writing a song together!

Camila released her first solo single 'Crying in the Club' and like any good friend Shawn was quick to show his support for Camila on social media. The 'Treat You Better' star tweeted about his 'friend's' new track saying, 'Speechless…goosebumps all over' he then added, 'you're incredible.' 👀

After MONTHS of trying to keep it low key Shawn and model Hailey Baldwin revealed they were dating by attending the 2018 Met Gala together. February 2019 – Grammy Awards
Before the big night Camila shared a picture of her and Shawn she wrote, 'so proud of this amazing human!!!! Seems like yesterday we were just kids singing Ed Sheeran songs in the dressing room, now we're kids trying not to throw up cause we're at the Grammys!!!! I love you forever.' 👀
June 2019 – ‘Senorita’
The pair released one of the biggest hits of 2019 which had a SUPER sexy video and obviously the dating rumours started. But Shawn and Camila still didn't confirm any romance just yet.

September – December 2019
The couple spent a lot of their summer together and had been caught holding hands and kissing a lot but STILL did not confirm if they were officially together. However, the two then started to publicly talk about each other in interviews, including cute stories about how their love for each other inspired some of their songs.
By the end of the year Shawn made it Instagram official and shared a photo of him and Camila.
March 2020 – Quarantining together
During the COVID-19 outbreak, Shawn and Camilla decided to move in together and did a live stream show together from their home. The couple looked super cute and gave us a proper insight into their relationship away from the red carpet!
November 2020 – Tarzan 🐶
he two took the big step in their relationship by getting a dog together and he is the cutest! The couple announced the arrival of their new pup Tarzan on Shawn's Instagram.
November 2020 – Shawn's Netflix documentary In Wonder
Shawn released a special documentary, 'Shawn Mendes: in Wonder', on Netflix which gave fans an insight into the couple's relationship. Shawn claimed that every song he's written for his new album 'Wonder' was about Camila - TOO CUTE.
December 2020 – ‘The Christmas Song’
Just when we thought they couldn't get any cuter our fave couple released a cover of the classic festive hit 'The Christmas Song' which features on the holiday deluxe version of Shawn's latest album 'Wonder'.
The two shot an adorable home movie for the music video which gave fans a look into their home life together…and with little Tarzan of course!
2021 - Celebrating their two year anniversary
In 2021, the pair celebrated their second anniversary and both shared adorable tributes to each other on social media.
Sharing loads of cute snaps on Instagram, Shawn said: "Happy 2 years my baby."
Meanwhile, Camila also gave fans an insight into their romance with a series of cosy snaps, writing: "Happy anniversary Kuko heart emoji here's to more joy, more friendship, and more love."
September 2021 - Met Gala
The couple looks INCREDIBLE on the 2021 Met Gala red carpet in New York and couldn't keep their hands off each other.
In October, Camila revealed in an interview with Glamour that her Shawn helps her with anxiety struggles in a number of ways.
She told the publication: "I have this pattern of eating a lot when I'm anxious or uncomfortable. It's a comfort thing for me. I'll just kind of become unconscious and zombie-eat a lot, and then I'll feel sick."
November 2021 - Split statement
Shawn and Camila left the showbiz world in shock in November, releasing a joint statement to reveal they'd split.
It read: 'Hey guys, we've decided to end our romantic relationship but our love for one another as humans is stronger than ever. We started our relationship as best friends and will continue to be best friends.
'We so appreciate your support from the beginning and moving forward. Camila and Shawn.' (sic)
April 2023 - Camila appears to reveal they've reunited
Camila appeared to confirm she is back with Shawn after the pair were spotted kissing at Coachella festival in April 2023. Videos emerged showing the stars kissing in the crowd multiple times during the festival. A viral TikTok appeared to confirm rumours that the couple have reunited.
Neither Shawn or Camila confirmed their relationship status, and following the festival a source told Page Six that the pair aren't back together. The insider said: "Shawn and Camila remain friends with a lot of love and history between them, but they aren't dating again. They've stayed in touch since their break-up and decided to meet up at Coachella since they were both going." The kiss was said to be a 'one off' after 'one thing led to another as the night progressed.
