The Brittas Empire is coming back to TV!
Chris Barrie will once again star as leisure centre manager Gordon Brittas
Hit nineties TV show The Brittas Empire is making a comeback!
Actor Chris Barrie will resurrect his role as the titular character - blazer-wearing leisure centre manager Gordon Brittas – in a new incarnation of the show.
The BBC have confirmed that The Brittas Empire is in development but they haven’t specified whether it’s for a one-off episode, series or Christmas special.
55-year-old Barrie, equally known for playing hologram Rimmer in Red Dwarf, told the Daily Mirror: “One of the original writers is behind it and, fingers crossed, it happens. The script stage is supposed to be done now.”
Focusing on the farcical goings on at Whitbury New Town Leisure Centre, The Brittas Empire was hugely popular during its six-year run on the BBC from 1991 to 1997 regularly pulling in over 10million viewers.
The show also starred Michael Burns as hapless and contagious deputy Colin, Pippa Haywood as Gordon’s cheating wife Helen and Harriet Thorpe as emotionally vulnerable receptionist Carole.
It’s the latest in a long line of 90s TV shows that have recently been resurrected including TFI Friday, The Crystal Maze and Fun House.
