This summer Cash for Kids has been granted £150,000 from the Scottish Government's Fair Food Fund - a project launched to help stop reliance on food banks in Scotland.
At Radio Forth's Cash for Kids we are delighted to receive £42,000 of this funding to support school holiday projects in Edinburgh, the Lothians and Fife.
Children spending the school holidays hungry is an ever increasing problem throughout our area with many schools reporting that children are coming back after the holidays with a severe lack of concentration. This then has a knock on affect and they find themselves falling behind with school work.
At Cash for Kids we aim to support projects and organisations in Edinburgh, the Lothians and Fife to put on Summer Holiday Clubs. Giving children living in poverty a hot meal and activities throughout the holidays.
Many of the children who attend the projects are not given the same opportunities during the holidays as their peers. Many go back to school without having gone away on holiday or having taken part in activities. As well as a hot meal the kids get a fun afternoon full of activities - giving them lasting memories and stories to go back and tell their friends.
We've supported many projects with this funding to help support children from every corner of our local area.
The projects we've supported are;
Pilton Youth and Children's Project
YMCA Edinburgh
Craigentinny-Lochend Social Centre
Community One Stop Shop
Family and Community Support Team
Kirkcaldy YMCA
Big Hearts Community Trust
The Cottage Family Centre
Edinburgh City Youth Cafe
