Two Men Locked Up For Savage Attack On Chinese Takeaway Owner in Edinburgh

Two men are being locked up for attempting to murder a Chinese takeaway owner in Edinburgh after stealing his car. 19-year-old Gary Reid and James Hogg, 24, repeatedly stabbed Jie Yu, 38, outside the Peking Garden in West Pilton last October. Reid was sent to a young offenders institute for seven years. Hogg, who admitted his part in the crime was racially motivated, was jailed for eight years and three months. They both pled guilty at the High Court in Glasgow last month and were sentenced at the High Court in Aberdeen today (Tues). Reid and Hogg stole their victim's delivery vehicle from outside his restaurant after he left the keys in the ignition. Mr Yu, 38, then chased after the pair on his daughter's bicycle - unaware they were both armed with knives. When he caught up with and confronted them he was repeatedly stabbed by both men in what was described in court as a "vicious and unprovoked attack". Reid's older brother John was jailed in 2010 for the killing of Chinese takeaway driver Simon San in Edinburgh.
