Police hunt man who stole £10,000 of watches from jewellery shop
Police are hunting a man who stole watches worth more than £10,000 from a jewellery shop.
A window of Laing in George Street, Edinburgh, was broken at around 1am on Friday and a number of designer watches stolen from display.
Officers said the collection is worth a five-figure sum and appealed for witnesses.
The suspect is about 5ft 10in with a slim build and was wearing an all-grey tracksuit with the hood pulled over his head. He was also carrying a white or grey holdall.
Detective Constable Michael Campbell said: 'We're appealing for any members of the public who may have seen a man matching this description in the area around 1am to get in touch. We'd also ask anyone with information about the whereabouts of the stolen watches to come forward. If you purchase stolen items, knowingly or otherwise, these can be returned to their rightful owners meaning a financial loss for yourself. Always go through a reputable seller, or ensure that you see proof of ownership before purchasing items such as jewellery.'
The store had a window broken just days after it opened in December but the would-be thieves fled empty handed.
Laing described the store at its opening as the 'largest luxury jewellery store outside London'.
