A man is in hospital with serious head injuries after being attacked outside a nightclub.
The 25-year-old was assaulted outside Sneaky Pete's club in Edinburgh's Cowgate.
Police said the attacker was arguing with another man in the street before turning on the victim at around 2.30am on Thursday.
He punched the 25-year-old, causing him to fall to the ground.
The victim suffered serious head injuries and was taken to Edinburgh Royal Infirmary then transferred to the city's Western General Hospital.
The suspect is white, about 6ft 1in, of thin build with short dark hair. He is said to be aged in his late 20s or early 30s.
He was wearing a dark jacket, a royal blue top with a white logo on the left side of the chest, and dark jeans.
PC Lauren Mitchell, of Leith police station, said: It's possible someone might remember seeing this man's aggressive behaviour outside the nightclub.
The suspect made off west along the Cowgate towards the Grassmarket, so it's also possible someone might have seen a man running in that direction.''
