Edinburgh Airport celebrates busiest ever May
It was a record breaking month for the hub
Edinburgh Airport experienced its busiest May on record last month after more than one million people boarded flights.
The airport had 1,111,377 passengers in May, a rise of 8.5% year on year, according to official figures.
A 15.7% jump in international travellers drove the overall increase, with 662,562 people heading overseas last month compared to 572,859 in May 2015.
The launch of several new European routes in the past year has been credited for the rise.
Domestic passengers were down 0.5% year on year to 448,815.
Passengers at the airport broke the one-million mark in April 2016 as well as in May, June, July, August, September and October last year.
Gordon Dewar, Edinburgh Airport's chief executive, said: May's record-breaking passenger figures make this another great month at Edinburgh Airport.
This is great news for Scotland's connectivity and the economy at large.''
