Driver who died in New Year's Day road smash named by police
A driver who died as a result of a road traffic collision on New Year's Day has been named by police in Edinburgh today as David Gasper.
The 20-year-old, who was from Hungary, was driving a Ford Fusion when it was involved in a collision with a Vauxhall Mokka at around 6:45pm on Murrayburn Road.
The driver of the other vehicle sustained injuries to his body.
David was taken to Western General Hospital but sadly succumbed to his injuries on Monday, January 11.
Inquiries into this matter are ongoing and police are renewing their appeal for witnesses to come forward.
In a statement released through Police Scotland, David’s family said: “David was much-loved and his death has left us utterly devastated.
“He had travelled to Edinburgh last September with the hope of providing a better life for his family who he loved very much and we are all so sad that he is no longer with us.
“We take comfort from the thought that he is now at peace and we would like to thank the medics who tried to save his life. We also wish to express our gratitude to the local residents who came out from their homes and supplied water and blankets to David’s cousin moments after the crash.
“We are still coming to terms with losing David and we ask anyone who witnessed the crash to please make yourself known to police and assist with their investigation.”
