20 mph zone introduced in Edinburgh city centre
If you are caught driving over 20mph from today, you'll be fined £100 and given three points.
Today sees the introduction of a 20 mile per hour zone in Edinburgh's city centre.
This phase of the £2.2m project, which the local authority hopes will reduce accidents, covers the city centre from Queen Street to the Meadows, and the western outskirts of the city such as Ratho and Currie.
From today if you are caught driving over 20 miles per hour within the zone, you will be fined £100 and given three points.
The limit will eventually cover 80% of the capital's roads by 2018.
Despite the change, speed limits on key arterial routes into the city will remain at 30 or 40mph.
Chief Inspector Mark Rennie told us why the move is important.
