Salad Cream is one of Heinz's most iconic brands, however after more than a century of being called Salad Cream, it's been reported that the company is set to rebrand, to reflect how most people use the popular condiment.

Apparently only 14% of people who use Salad Cream actually use it on salad, with the majority of people using it on a sandwich, meaning Heinz are considering rebranding it to Sandwich Cream.

A Heinz representative told a trade magazine called The Grocer that the name no longer "fairly represents the product's ingredients or usage occasions."

However, the reaction to the news of this possible name change has been greeted with a bit of opposition, with one fan taking to Twitter to vent their frustration saying, 'This is not okay with me. I feel attacked. 😒'.

Another said, 'Who else is massively offended @HeinzUK are changing the name of Salad Cream to Sandwich Cream? 😱😱 Too many syllables; messing with tradition; I put it on SALADs. Cretins. #saladccreamgate #saladcream #heinz #stopmessingwithstuff'.

There were also many other reactions from consumers who have grown up with the well-known brand, see some other reactions below...

One more person joked that after renaming Salad Cream other condiments would be renamed including tomato sauce and mayonnaise saying, '#HEINZ are renaming Salad Cream Sandwich Cream. Tomato Sauce will now be know as Red Chip Spread, HP Sauce is Spicy Brown Bacon Spread and Mayonnaise is Creamy Chicken Baby Love.'

According to The Grocer, Heinz are looking to appeal to 'younger shoppers' and a different name could better reflect how the condiment is used. Salad Cream was originally launched in 1914 and became particularly popular in the 1940s, however last year the UK sales dropped by 5.4%.

What do you think about this new name? 🤔
