A "mini tornado" has ripped through a housing estate in Widnes.

Cheshire Police say they were called at 12.25pm, to reports of damage in the area.

Footage shows walls and a tree have fallen over, and car windows have also been smashed.

Officers say there are no reports of injuries.

David Nevitt, who lives in the area, told Downtown Radio: "I was sat in the living room, I heard the wind getting stronger on the back patio doors so I looked to the back garden. I saw all sorts of items from the back garden swirling around the air and flying about the garden.

"I went into the kitchen to get a better look at what was going on, that was when I saw the trampoline had gone about ten to 15 yards in the direction of the house, narrowly missing the windowsill at the back.

"I went to the front of the garden just to check everything was alright there. That was when I saw my tree had just become unrooted."

A spokesperson for Cheshire Police added (at 2.30pm): "At 12.25pm on Wednesday 20 October police received reports of damage in the Widnes area.

"The damage includes a wall falling down, windows of cars smashed and debris on Camberwell Road.

"A number of road closures are in place including Camberwell Road at the junction of Moorfield.

"Damage has also occurred to the garage of a property on Kensington Close.

"There have been no reports of any injuries.

"The damage has been reported to police as being caused by a mini tornado."
