Hampshire Police launch appeal after swan shot with air rifle
The swan was found on Thursday morning with injuries
Police in Hampshire are appealing for information and witnesses after a swan was shot with an air rifle in Whiteley, near Fareham.
The animal had been discovered by a passer-by at around 10am on Thursday (June 6th) close to the Solent Business Park.
After being found close to The Bridge Deck Café, it was found that the swan had injuries that were consistent with being shot with an air rifle.
Police were told that the bird was taken to be assessed by medical professionals, and luckily the bird did not die from the injuries that it had sustained.
Officers from Hampshire and the Isle of Wight Police have now appealed to anyone who may have seen anything suspicious to get in touch as soon as possible.
In particular, the force is asking anyone who may have been acting suspiciously in the area at the time of the attack, or those who worked or visited the park in the lead-up to the shooting to reach out.
