A 19-year-old woman has died after attending the Terminal V techno dance event this past weekend.
Reports suggest Maya Nager fell ill on Saturday night at the Royal Highland Centre after 'ingesting a substance' - although it'll be some time before we know the exact cause of her death.
Police confirmed she later died on Monday at the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh.
Cops had previously warned at the City Council's licensing committee that they had concerns for safety at the event - when councillors were deciding whether to grant it permission to run.
That's because they had previously dealt with a number of drug related incidents at other Terminal V events.
A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "We were made aware of a 19-year-old woman taking unwell at an event in the Ingliston area of Edinburgh, around 6pm on Saturday, October 29, 2022. She was taken to the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh for treatment but sadly died on Monday, October 31, 2022.
“Enquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances of the incident.”
Close to 20,000 people attended last Saturday's Halloween themed event.
A spokesperson for Terminal V said: ''We are absolutely devastated at this news and our deepest sympathies are with the family. We continue to assist the police with their enquiries.''
Scottish Liberal Democrats Leader Alex Cole-Hamilton is the local MP in the area of the venue, the Royal Highland Centre.
He told us it's " a devastating revelation"
He said: "My heart goes out to both her friends and her family, and anyone who loved her.
"The Police are obviously trying to establish the circumstances of this death, but it is a tragedy
"A life cut short far too soon.
"Maya's family and those who cared about her will be desperately searching for answers about this tragedy.
"They deserve that to happen as quickly as possible, but the Police have to be given time to establish the facts.
"There is a worrying trend of young people dying at music events - not just at Terminal V."
