Prince William to visit community centre in Liverpool
The Prince of Wales will meet members of Timber Young People's Steering Group
Prince William is to visit Liverpool on Thursday (23 January), where he will meet members of a community group in Toxteth.
The Prince of Wales will join members of the Timber Young People's Steering Group on Tagus Street, to learn about positive changes made there.
Over 200 young people have been part of the project since it was created in 2005, which puts young people at the heart of the decision-making process, thereby allowing them to influence the look and feel of the development.
The Tiber Young People’s Steering Group is composed of a group of 14- to 18-year-olds who work to ensure that members of their local community, and in particular their peers, are provided with opportunities that enable them to play a significant role in bringing about a positive change both in their own lives and within their local environment.
The Group raised significant funds through the Youth Investment Fund and spearheaded the design of a new community building which is now nearing completion. The complex will ultimately compose of a function suite and outdoor event space, education rooms, a café, and changing rooms for the on-site football pitch.
Once up and running the group hopes that these facilities will create more jobs and volunteering opportunities as well as provide training facilities for local people.
On arrival, His Royal Highness will tour the facility and meet members of the Steering Group.
The Prince will hear about their experiences of working on the project, including the funding applications, the design, and the ultimate construction of the building, and the positive impact being involved in the project has had.
The Prince will then meet some young people on the pitch of the adjoining Football Centre, which brings together over 1,200 children and young people a week. Here, His Royal Highness will learn about the impact this new facility will have on the local community.
Before departing, The Prince will meet members of the community in the vicinity of the Community Building.
