Minor earthquake hits Blackpool
Tremors were felt in the town and surrounding areas last night
There's been a very small earthquake in Blackpool.
Tremors were felt in the town and surrounding areas at 7.36pm last night.
People living there described cabinets shaking and a sound like an approaching train.
There aren't reports of any injuries or damage.
The British Geological Survey's confirmed the tremor and the reports it's received.
Earthquakes are very rare in the UK and when they do happen, they very rarely reach a significant number of the richter scale.
They're caused by the movement of tectonic plates under the Earth's surface.
Their severity is much higher in other parts of the world though, particularly around certain fault lines.
