Storm Darragh: Man dies after tree falls on van in Lancashire in fatal crash
The incident took place close to Lancashire Police's headquarters
A man in his 40s has died after a tree fell onto his van during Storm Darragh on Saturday morning (December 7th).
Officers were alerted to an incident taking place on the A59 at Longton close to Lancashire Police headquarters at around 9am.
When responders arrived on the scene, they found a man who had been driving a Citroen van on the dual carriageway.
The van was then hit by a tree that had fallen on his vehicle, resulting in serious injuries to the driver.
Emergency services were called to the scene shortly afterwards, with paramedics being deployed to the scene to perform immediate medical treatment; however, despite their best efforts - the man was pronounced dead at the scene.
The victim's next of kin has been informed, according to Lancashire Police, and they are being supported by specially trained officers.
Investigations into the accident are now underway as enquiries are carried out into how the crush took place.
Speaking about the investigation, Detective Sergeant Matt Davidson from Lancashire Police said: "Very sadly this incident has resulted in the death of a man and our thoughts are with his loved ones at this time.”
“An investigation is ongoing, and I would appeal to anyone who saw what happened or has any dashcam or mobile phone footage to please get in touch.”
