Avon and Somerset Police have launched a murder investigation following a fatal assault in Bristol.
Officers were first alerted to an incident taking place on Stapleton Road in the east of the city, after reports that a man had been stabbed at 5:40pm on Friday evening (September 20th).
Responders arrived on the scene and immediately gave first aid, before calling on reinforcements, as well as paramedics.
The man was taken to Southmead Hospital with serious injuries in the wake of the attack and was sadly pronounced dead at the scene later in the evening.
Formal identification is yet to take place, but the victim's next of kin has been informed.
A post-mortem will take place this weekend, as police launch an investigation into his dead.
A large emergency response has been conducted, with force members from various branches of the team working to find the offender.
One man has since been arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender and currently remains in police custody.
Speaking on the case, Bristol Commander Superintendent Mark Runacres said: “Our thoughts and sympathies go out to the loved ones of this man, who will receive support from a specially-trained officer and will be kept updated as our investigation progresses.
“A murder inquiry has been launched and is being led by our Major Crime Investigation Team.
“A large amount of CCTV has already been reviewed to further our understanding of what happened and those efforts are continuing today.”
Road closures are in effect, as Stapleton Road remains closed between the train station and Robertson Road whilst forensic examinations take place.
Superintendent Runacres appealed to the public to come forward with any information, as the area would have been particularly busy during the rush hour.
Anyone who may have been in the area and witnessed the stabbing taking place, or anyone who may have filmed in the environment at the time is being urged to get in touch as soon as possible.
Those who may have been witness to the incident, or motorists driving through the Stapleton Road area can get in touch with the force by calling 101 and quoting 5224248976.
