Glentoran striker Curtis Allen believes the glory days will return to the Oval.

But he says they will have to be patient.

Speaking as a guest on our latest BetMcLean Football show, now available to view on Cool FM’s Facebook page (see link below), Allen says that despite a disappointing season, Glentoran were still one of Northern Ireland’s biggest clubs.

“It might not happen in my playing days in terms of the next three of four years or whatever,” he said.

“It takes time – they can get back. I think the big problem is trying to bring players in.”

Allen also said that money could also be a stumbling block to future success – with a number of clubs now in the mix for the top players.

“It used to be just Linfield and Glentoran and they fought over the best players – now you have got Crusaders. Larne are going to come into it, Coleraine, Ballymena.

“The problem is all these clubs are willing to throw out a wee bit more money than the Glens can.”

The 30-year-old marksman said the Glens should take their cue from Coleraine and build a foundation of hungry young players.

“There is no doubt about it – Glentoran is still one of the biggest clubs in the Irish league – if you look at the average attendances, Glentoran are right up there.

“Glentoran need to mirror what Coleraine have done in the last few years.”

Also guesting on this week’s show is Irish League legend, is Pat ‘Packie’ McAllister, who had playing spells with both Cliftonville and Coleraine.
