Trimble calls for Ulster improvement ahead of new season
Ulster captain Andrew Trimble says Ulster must shake off the disappointment of last season's campaign, as he targets improvement in 2017/18.
An underwhelming year saw them finish 5th in the Pro12 and miss out on a play-off place.
"Last year we didn't get to the standard that we demand of ourselves, or that the press, supporters and everyone demands of us. There's a lot of talent in this team and we didn't get there. So we wan't to stop talking about it and just start achieving things."
The failure of 2016/17 was followed by several changes among the backroom staff, with Jono Gibbes being brought in as the new Head Coach.
"He sets very, very high standards and he's clear in his communication in terms of what he requires. There's never any confusion, you know exactly what you have to achieve in a session, and you know exactly what's required in every role. So it's a good place to be now and it's exciting," said Trimble.
For Trimble, last season's disappointment was compounded by recurring injuries. However, the 32 year old believes the worst is now behind him.
"I think this is a team that can do big things and I want to be part of it, and I want to push myself to be as good as I can be. I think there's a lot of life in me so I know I can kick on and deliver the form I expect of myself," said Trimble.
Ulster open their preseason by hosting Wasps at the Kingspan on Thursday the 17th of August.
