Republic aim to take game to Serbia

O'Neill intends being positive from the start of crucial WC qualifier

Martin O’Neill has promised his Republic side will start on the front foot in their crucial World Cup qualifier against Serbia tonight.

They sit second in Group D – just two points behind their opponents.

O’Neill says they’ll be positive from the first whistle.

“We are going to try to win the game and if we can’t win the game we will try to get something out of the game,” he said.

“If we win the game we set ourselves up for a grandstand finish”.

But O’Neill goes into the game with a number of injury concerns.

Jeff Hendrick is already ruled out and there will be late fitness tests for Aiden McGeady and Wes Hoolahan
