Paralympic star Jason Smyth announces his retirement, aged 35
Paralympic sport's fastest man Jason Smyth has announced his retirement at the age of 35.
The sprinter landed six Paralympic titles, including 100m and 200m doubles at the Beijing and London Games of 2008 and 2012.
In the 100m decider in the Olympic Stadium, Smyth bettered his own T13 100m world record to 10.46 seconds.
He pulled out an even more impressive show in the 200m as he lowered his existing global mark to 21.05 seconds - 0.11 slower than his fastest performance in able-bodied competition in the longer sprint.
His decision closes a winning chapter in Northern Ireland's Paralympic athletics chapter following Michael McKillop's decision to step away after the Games in Tokyo.
