Maybin calls it a day due to injury

Ballyclare golfer Gareth Maybin has announced his retirement.

The 36-year-old has taken to Twitter to say an ongoing wrist injury was preventing him from carrying on.

Maybin has been troubled by the injury since 2015.

He attempted a comeback earlier this year in the Johannesburg Open but he had to withdraw.

Early in his career, Maybin lost in a play-off in the South African Open but the runner-up spot put him into the World Top 100 rankings.

He also finished the 2010 season in the top 40.

Maybin represented Ireland, alongside Michael Hoey, at the 2007 Omega Mission Hills World Cup where they finished in 24th position.
