Man United on brink after another win at the SuperCupNI
Another day of drama on the north coast
After another packed day at the SuperCupNI, Manchester United are still living up to their favourites status. Downtown & Cool FM reporter AARON O’NEILL was there for us
In the Junior section of the tournament it was a mixed day for the home county sides. In the early kick-off Co. Armagh ran out 2-1 winners against North Dublin SL. Co. Londonderry had a share of the spoils in the afternoon as they drew 0-0 with First Choice Soccer at the Showgounds in Coleraine.
Co. Down and Co. Antrim clashed in Castlerock and it was Antrim who edged out Down as they clinched a 1-0 victory.
In the evening kick-off Co. Fermanagh put up a great fight against tournament favourites Manchester United before going down 4-2 at the Ballymena Showgrounds.
It means United are now on the verge of a semi-final spot – three years after they last appeared in the competition.
Meanwhile, Scottish giants Rangers enjoyed a comfortable win over Colina as they ran out 5-0 victors.
In the Premier section Co. Armagh and Co. Down were the only county sides to get anything from their games as they picked up draws against Komazawa Uni FC and French side Vendee.
Co. Fermanagh and Co. Tyrone suffered heavy defeats against pre-tournament favourites Right to Dream and O’Higgins respectively.
Co. Londonderry lost 1-0 to Otago however they will feel that they deserved something more from the game whlst Co. Antrim suffered a narrow 1-0 defeat to Club America.
Looking ahead to Wednesday, there are a number of high profile clashes throughout both the Junior and Premier sections. Manchester United face Southampton with both teams aiming to book their place in the latter stages of the tournament. Rangers have a tough game against American side, First Choice Soccer.
Co. Tyrone face Co. Londonderry in the only all-county clash in the Junior section with both sides looking for all three points. Co. Fermanagh go head to head with Dundalk SL whilst Co. Down and Co. Antrim entertain Colina and Strikers at the halfway stage of the tournament.
In the Premier section all six counties prepare to face each other in Wednesday’s fixtures. Co. Armagh take on Co. Londonderry, Co. Fermanagh take on Co. Down whilst Co. Antrim will play Co. Tyrone, all of these fixtures are scheduled for an 7pm kick-off
